Dussmann Service

A waiting line with more than one end

11/16/2010 – Dussmann Service and the EXPO in Shanghai

At the close of the world exhibition EXPO in Shanghai, the German pavilion Balancity was awarded the first prize. It received the organizers’ Golden Award for the best development of the EXPO theme “Better City, Better Life”. While the visitors to  Balancity moved through city scenarios as if it were a real city – on foot, on moving paths, up escalators – 250 Dussmann staff took care of security and cleaning. Cleaning services were also provided to the Hong Kong Pavilion, the Infinite City. During the six months of the EXPO’s duration, around 160,000 man hours were worked.

We are happy for the organizers and congratulate them on the award” said Axel Gränitz, Dussmann board member. “Of course we are also a little proud to have able to contribute to the success of Balancity. We were able to show the world what services “Made by Dussmann” with German quality look like. I believe that China has breathed new life into the world exhibition. It was a great performance by all of those involved.” Gränitz continued.

Gränitz, who is responsible for the international operations of the Dussmann Group, visited the EXPO together with a delegation accompanying the German Economics Minister, Rainer Brüderle. The project management of the German pavilion was led by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology. In 184 days, more than four million people visited the German pavilion. Its popularity led to long lines of up to 5,000 people at a time. “In this country, behavior in waiting lines is rather different to that in Europe - there is more than one end. This was quite a challenge for our security staff.” Explained Gränitz.

The operations at the EXPO have made the Chinese Dussmann subsidiary the highest profile security services provider in this metropolis of millions. Another client is the ifc Shanghai. 400 Dussmann personnel carry out security services at the complex with its two office towers, Grand Shopping Mall and 200 luxury apartments.
