Peter Dussmann: Shop Closing "Bastion" Falls on Friday

11/15/2006 – Senate acts quickly and publishes new version of the shop closing law ahead of schedule
 

The entrepreneur Peter Dussmann, whose Dussmann group of companies also includes the KulturKaufhaus in Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, is pleased about the early publication of the Berlin shop opening law. According to a statement by the Berlin Senate this week, the new law was to be published on November 24, 2006 in the Gazette of Laws and Ordinances in order to come into force 24 hours later.

"In response to my urgent request and my announcement on Tuesday that I intended to implement the decision of the House of Representatives on November 17, the wording of the law is now being published on Thursday. This means that the new law on shop closing in Berlin will come into effect on Friday and the Senate is again showing its commitment to the Berlin economy. They would never have reacted so flexibly in Munich. That is why I moved my headquarters from there to Berlin," explains Peter Dussmann.
For the start of the new opening times of the Dussmann "KulturKaufhaus", i.e. Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight, continuous opening throughout Friday night and from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Sundays during Advent, Dussmann is inviting all Berliners and guests of the city to a huge "shop closing killer party" on Friday from 10 p.m. on.

"Now Berlin can finally compete with the other metropolises of this world in terms of shop opening hours. The provision of services without shop clos-ing times has always been my wish and my motto," says Dussmann.
